Charlotte Hotel & Restaurant

The hotel is located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in the historic town of Onancock at 7 North Street, just four blocks from the deep water harbor on Onancock Creek.

The building was created in 1907 as the White Hotel. When the present owners (Charlotte Heath & Gary Cochran) purchased the building, the two upstairs floors were serving as apartments and the downstairs was a vacant retail space. Today, there is a full service bar, intimate dining room, first floor lobby, and an art gallery in addition to eight well appointed guest rooms.

The award winning restaurant features the cuisine of Chef Ted Cathey which is prepared using many Eastern Shore products. It is with great pride that we support local watermen, farmers, and area businesses. Because much of our fare is made from locally available ingredients, the menu changes frequently, often daily. Entrée choices normally include meat, fish, fowl, and a vegetarian selection. Entree prices range from $15 to $35. Everything is house-made, including the ice cream! Our bar is well stocked, and the extensive wine list offers selections from around the world.

History of Arts Enter at the Historic Palace Theater

Arts Enter was incorporated in 1997 as a not-for-profit organization. It is governed by a Board of Directors who represent cultural, educational and business diversities of the community.

In 1998, Arts Enter was offered the option to buy the Art Deco style Historic Palace Theatre.

The Palace Theatre is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by a German architect, Alfred M. Lublin and was built in 1941 as a movie house.

In its day, the Palace Theatre was considered one of the finest theatres on the east coast and held 380 orchestra level seats as well as fifty balcony seats. At this time, Cape Charles was a prosperous railroad town. The terrazzo floors, walnut paneling, and foyer mirrors give way to the entrance of this vintage treasure, a most exclusive and elegant appeal. This center for the arts is now a hive of culture, entertainment and instruction.

Our performances offer a wide range of artistic talent; over the years the most notable being the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Opera, Virginia Musical Theatre, Bay Youth Orchestra, Virginia Children’s Chorus, as well as several in-house original productions. Arts Enter has exciting programs planned for the Palace Theatre each season along with an impressive list of class activities in dance, painting, pottery, music and drama.
